Hey everyone!  Just wanted to drop in and say yes I am alive, things have just been a little more nuts than my already crazy summer since classes start on monday

I'm hoping to be around more again sometime soon, as I'm taking a break from commissions while classes get settled and I want to work on my own art and things a bit.

Hope everyone is doing well!!

TY for commenting on my use of blue/green lmao that's so nice

Honestly it was the first thing I noted when I saw your art for the first time, if I remember correctly. If not the first, one of the first.

I really admire your style 💙

Drawn for a friend. I was trying to find a good balance between lines and painting.

Had this lying about and figured to share it. Sorry about the sidebar, the recording is from one of my livestreams ages ago. One day I will muster the courage to do a voiceover in my broken engrish LOL

Me, a year ago: how do all the artists I follow say they have like 20 WIPs I don't understand I work on one piece until it's done and then I move on..

Me, now, digging through my WIP folder: WHERE THE HELL DID THAT DAMN THING GO

Commission Info Update

Hey guys!

Sorry, I know I've been all over the place of late.  Anyway.

Commissions are now officially on hold for the moment, as I am going to be doing some price adjustments now that my July sale is over and I have a bit of experience doing commissions.

This adjustment may also include a reduction in the amount of slots available at one time, due to the fact that I have classes starting in a few weeks.

Once I've got the prices solidified I'll make a post as well as update my commission page on my blog.

Thank you to all those that have commissioned me so far!

I have...an issue.  With some logo commissions I've been doing for my neighbor.  And I just...really don't know what to do about it.  If any artists that do commissions on here have the time to take a look below the cut and perhaps offer some advice..that would be great.

Okay so first a little background.  My neighbor is a pretty awesome guy.  When he saw that I was making posts on facebook with some art on them, he came to me and asked if I would do some logo work for him.  I hadn't posted any of my rates at this point, and he up front offered me $20 for the first commission and I figured

hey, he cuts me and my roomie deals on weed 'cause he likes us, and he's also a chill guy, this is a pretty simple commission - and I have no training in logos so, what the hell? Why not.

These are the first two I did for him.  They didn't take me long, they were fun, and the guy he commissioned them for (he runs his own music studio kinda homemade, his friends are the musicians) loved it.  I didn't mind only doing this for $20.

Then he gave me the next one, same price, $20.

Here's what I did for that one.  Personally I'm not as pleased with it, but they all still loved it so I didn't care - I got paid.

Then I was given another one.  He wanted his studio name plus a logo for the studio.  I spent quite a bit more time on this one, and it's significantly more intricate than the others.

If I'm being honest this is truly some of my best work, especially considering I have not been trained at all in logo design.  Could they have gotten better if they'd gone to someone who had been trained in that?  Yeah.  But they came to me.  However, this one - when he gave me the commission - he told me he'd pay when I finished it.  I was fine with that - he had paid me up front for the others, I knew he was good for it, and I figured maybe it was because he wanted to pay me more but didn't have the funds quite yet.

So I delivered it, without discussing payment right away, because I trust him and I figured he'd at least give me $40.

Today I went over to get 2 other logo commissions for him, both of which I got $20 up front for.

Here's where the issue comes in:

  • He only gave me $20 for the dragon logo.  That was probably about 4 times the amount of work I put into the others, and he still gave me the same amount
  • One of the other commissions he just gave me isn't even for his studio it's for people that want to put it on like bowls and shit at glass shops (weed smoking bowls, etc.), and he quoted the $20 price to them
  • my stupid ass was too much of a coward to say anything

so now I'm sitting here with $60 when I should really have at the very least $80 and I'm about to cry because that dragon logo is one of my proudest works and I just feel really undervalued but now I don't know what to do

and I was giving him a HUGE discount because he's my neighbor and awesome and if someone had asked me for logo designs they wanted to put on glass bowls to sell to people I would have probably asked for like.  $100.  Especially if I'm not going to get any of that profit from the item sales.

I don't know what to do you guys I don't know how to be mean or upfront and I know this wouldn't be mean but I just don't know how to even start to broach the subject like he just doesn't know what this kind of thing would cost him if he went to someone else and I'm still giving a huge discount but like...it's worth..more...than that...

and I"m struggling financially hardcore, and I need the money...but logos aren't just a blanket $20 - I can't do anything with that.

Does anyone have any advice?

pantarhei -

Tentative solution after conversation with my roommate:

I'll do the two logos my neighbor commissioned me for.  But rather than giving him the logo for the glass shop, I'm going to ask him for the email of the guy who wanted the design.  I'll send that person the design - I did accept payment already - and explain that I'm a beginner freelancer and was working with CJ without having training.  However, because I am going to be starting design classes I need to update my prices to reflect both my training and my experience level.

This will mean I'll be charging at least $10/hour (especially since I won't be getting any cut of the profits if they're going to be mass producing these onto merchandise), prices may fluctuate based on the design, additional cost for revisions, and I will only work directly with the shop and not a middle man.

I'm hoping to make up some business cards before I send this email, and also a business email account to deal with this kind of thing.

I feel like this is a pretty decent solution to my current problem.

I hope.

Preliminary health results say everything is fine, thank fuck

its going to take me the rest of the week to recover from the stress overload that has been the past three days, but then I should be back to normal.

Hey guys I just had some pretty earth shattering health shit happen

im putting all commissions on hold

not sure how much I’ll be around while we figure things out

So I just realized that a warm up I had done like a month and a half ago now

a warm up that I absolutely fell in love with because it actually looked like a painting and needed some work but

it wasn't too far off from being done

I just went to open it to look at it (not to draw, my shoulder is toast after finishing that logo today)

just to look at it.

At first I couldn't find it.

When I did, I discovered that despite reading the correct day and time for when I last worked on it, and being a later copy than the small version on my phone

it is 10 steps behind where it was when I last took a break from it

now.  I might have been working on it as a flat canvas, and I might be able to find a friend I sent a preview to in order to start from the right place

if I sent it in it's original file size

if I was working on a single layer

and if I'm not so disheartened by the second thing not saving properly for me and losing hours of work to try again

Alright guys, here we go!

(if you can't commission please reblog!)

Most information can be found in the graphic above, however here's a tiny bit more to cover my bases:

  • Commissions will be completed within 2 weeks of accepted date
  • If you would like to preview the piece before it is done, I can send a preview of the lineart/sketch layer prior to completion (free of charge)
  • If there is a style you do not see listed here but would like to commission me for, send me a message!  There's a chance I may be able to work something out, but not a guarantee.
  • Further examples of my work can be found here!

COMMISSION SLOTS (soon as I have time I will make a page on my blog so you can view these in real time)

  1. open
  2. open
  3. open

I might be working on either one of these logo commissions later today or perhaps that Aziraphale painting...I know there's probably a few of you that would be interested in a stream if I were working on Az

but would any of you be interested if I was working on one of these logos?
